MANILA, Philippines — Twelve members of a family, including four minors, were rescued when their motor boat sank in the waters off Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte on Sunday afternoon.

Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), who were traveling with local government employees to Dapitan from Selinog Island, spotted the sinking boat.

The PCG and the state workers immediately launched a rescue operation and saved two infants, two older children and eight adults.

The adults said they were headed to the Rizal Shrine in Dapitan City when the outrigger of their boat got damaged, causing the watercraft to lose balance and sink.

The family members were turned over to the city disaster risk reduction and management office in Dapitan, where they received medical attention.
