MANILA, Philippines — At least 58 families lost their homes when fires broke out in Navotas and Mandaluyong on Friday.

In Navotas, 56 families were left homeless during a fire that broke out in a slum area on Friday afternoon.

The fire along Silahis street in Barangay Tanza Uno broke out at around 4:10 p.m. and reached second alarm, the Bureau of Fire Protection’s National Capital Region field office said in a report.

Arson probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire that engulfed around 30 shanties.

Firefighters doused the flames at around 5:07 p.m.

The displaced residents sought shelter at the basketball court of the Tanza National High School, where they received relief supplies from the city government.

In Mandaluyong, two families were displaced when a fire razed a two-story apartment on Friday night.

The apartment is located along Mariveles street in Barangay Highway Hills.

The fire started at around 6:22 p.m. and reached first alarm before it was put out by firefighters at around 7:25 p.m.

Arson investigators said P6 million worth of property had been lost in the fire.
