MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a motorcycle rider after he was caught allegedly carrying an improvised shotgun in Quezon City on Thursday.

Suspect Jon Jonn Rualo, 32, was traveling along Sgt. Rivera Avenue in Barangay Manresa when he was pulled over by police officers at around 5 p.m. for not wearing a crash helmet and driving a motorcycle without side mirrors.

While police were verifying the documents of Rualo’s motorbike, one of the lawmen noticed a suspicious-looking item bulging from his sling bag.

When he was ordered to open his bag for inspection, police allegedly found a shotgun, locally known as sumpak, loaded with a bullet.

Instead of surrendering, Rualo reportedly resisted and attempted to escape, but was subdued by the police.

Rualo was brought to the La Loma police station, where he is detained on charges of violating Republic Act 10591, the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition, and resistance and disobedience to persons in authority.
