Suspect killed, cop hurt in shootout at checkpoint

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — An unidentified man was killed while a policeman was wounded in a shootout at a checkpoint in Tanay, Rizal on Thursday night.

A certain Cpl. Buenaventura of the Baras police station was reportedly wounded.

Capt. Mariesol Tactaquin, Rizal police spokesperson, said a police team led by Pat. Rey Dolendo was conducting Oplan Sita along the Sagbat-Pillila Road when two unidentified men on a motorcycle refused to pull over.

A brief chase ensued, with the suspects firing at pursuing policemen, hitting Buenaventura.

A manhunt for the companion of the slain suspect is underway.
