MANILA, Philippines — The water level in Angat Dam has continued to increase amid rains in its watershed.

As of yesterday, the elevation of the reservoir was less than one meter from its record high of 215 meters.

Water discharge from the dam continued yesterday as its elevation was monitored at 214. 19 meters, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said the dam’s water level reached 215 meters in January.

Two reservoir gates were opened at one meter as of 6 a.m. yesterday.

A spill gate of Ipo Dam remained open at .70 meters, also yesterday.

The water level in the dam, which was monitored at 100.79 meters, was slightly below its normal high of 101 meters.

PAGASA has given assurance that the water level in Angat Dam is adequate and enough to last through the dry season amid the ongoing El Niño.

Water release from the dams is meant to protect their structural integrity, officials said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon is affecting extreme Northern Luzon while easterlies are affecting the rest of the country.

The easterlies will bring scattered rains over Albay, Sorsogon and Catanduanes.

Batanes and Babuyan islands may experience isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience isolated rains due to easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public of floods or landslides during heavy rains.
