LTO summons SUV driver, owner in road crash

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) yesterday issued a show-cause order against the owner and driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) involved in a road crash in Mandaluyong City early Saturday morning.
LTO National Capital Region director Roque Verzosa III said both the owner and driver of the Mitsubishi Montero with license plate WTQ-575 were ordered to appear at the LTO NCR office on Jan. 4.
Verzosa said that based on a social media post and incident report from the Mandaluyong police station 2, the driver parked the SUV on the fast lane of EDSA and was seen sleeping inside.
He said the driver was awakened by knocking on the vehicle door. The driver tried to escape, but ran over Raina Frances Cada.
The incident took place at around 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 23 along EDSA corner United street in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong.
Verzosa said that based on records, the SUV was unregistered at the time of the incident.
The LTO also slapped a 90-day suspension on the driver’s license and registration of the SUV.
According to Verzosa, the driver is also facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury and violation of Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
