Mayor Joy Belmonte, Sotto: Be grateful for little things
MANILA, Philippines — Despite challenges and frustrations, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Vice Mayor Gian Sotto believe that there are still a lot to be grateful for this Christmas.
In their joint Christmas message, the city’s top two officials urged Filipinos to be thankful for the small victories and simple things that often go unnoticed.
Belmonte underscored the importance of being active agents of change and helping improve the lives of others.
“There are many challenges that we are facing, including the increasing cost of basic commodities, but we also achieved a lot, such as unity, love for each other and hope. These are the times when we show the true value of being a strong community,” Belmonte said in Filipino.
“Christmas is already filled with commercialism, so our little request to everyone: look at the things that we don’t pay much attention to, but should be thankful for,” she added.
For Sotto, it is the little things that matter the most.
“That’s why if we think about it, more than the material things, it is still more important that we spend time with our families, friends and other loved ones. There are also our small victories that we often overlook due to frustrations, failures and problems,” he said.
“This Christmas, let us remember that this is not just about the food and the gifts, but the opportunity to give more time, happiness and care for others. It may be simple for some, but this is not something that can be replaced by any material thing,” Sotto added.
People do not need to have everything to bring happiness to others, the vice mayor said, adding that it is comforting to know that there are many things that one can be grateful for.
“As your vice mayor, it is a huge privilege to be a part of a community that cares for each and every one,” he said.
Belmonte also expressed gratitude to QCitizens for supporting and being the inspiration for the local government’s programs, policies and projects.
“Our Christmas gift to you is our commitment to continue providing quality service and good governance to our city… We will continue to work hard to make our city shine and make every QCitizen happy,” she added.
