LTO wants schools to teach road safety

MANILA, Philippines — Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Vigor Mendoza is urging schools to include road safety in extracurricular activities to educate young students.

Administrators of elementary and high schools should consider including the Road Safety Interactive Center (RSIC) on their educational tours, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said yesterday.

The RSIC, which officially opened on Monday, can help students understand and follow road safety and traffic rules through modern technology and interactive infotainment, including driving simulators for two and four-wheeled vehicles, he noted.

“Elementary and high school students are the next generations of motorists. It is important that at their age, they are introduced to this kind of facility that focuses on road safety,” Mendoza said.

He said the RSIC also has a 4D mini-theater with informative videos on child safety, teen driving, pedestrian safety, vehicle theft prevention and types of public utility vehicles.

A committee will be tasked to schedule and receive bookings from various schools interested in visiting the RSIC.
