MANILA, Philippines — The University of Makati (UMak) School of Law earned the top spot among schools that had 50 examinees or less after notching a 94.12 percent passing rate in the September 2023 Bar examinations.

Mayor Abby Binay congratulated the 32 successful Bar examinees, including Yvette Veronique Rueda, who placed 14th after garnering a score of 87.87 percent.

“The ranking is an affirmation of Makati’s commitment to educational excellence that is reflected in the quality of legal education being provided by the UMak School of Law,” Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement.

In 2022, UMak ranked second with an 88.89 percent passing rate while it ranked first with 100 percent in 2021.

Meawhile, 41 officers and personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have passed the Bar exam.

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. on Thursday praised the new lawyers for not only displaying their expertise in the field of law but also exemplified the PNP’s unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professionalism among the members of the police force.

“I am confident that these individuals will continue to serve with distinction, utilizing their legal expertise to further our commitment to justice and public service,” Acorda said in a statement.

Among the new lawyers are Staff Sergeants Anthony Santos and Jeanbeart Malang, who are assigned at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

“Your achievement is a shining example of the excellence we aim for at the QCPD,” district director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said in a statement.
