CITY OF MALOLOS, Philippines — The operator of Angat Dam continues to release water for the third consecutive day yesterday as its water elevation remains above normal.
Josephine Salazar, National Irrigation Administration director for Central Luzon, said the dam’s water elevation was still at 212.88 meters due to the rains yesterday morning.
She added that Spill Gates 2 and 3 were opened to discharge 135 cubic meters of water per second to Ipo Dam, which was also releasing 144.80 CMS of water on its downstream river system toward Bustos Dam.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) earlier suggested to stop the release of water from Angat Dam citing the need for “extra reserves” amid the possible effects of El Niño.
Patrick Dizon, MWSS division manager, was quoted as saying the spill gates of the reservoir should be opened only if the water level reached its maximum elevation of 214 meters.
