MANILA, Philippines — A search and rescue operation is ongoing for a fisherman who was reported missing in the waters off Oriental Mindoro, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said yesterday.

Joseph Jalos of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro reportedly went on a fishing venture at around 5 p.m. on Nov. 2 and has not returned home since.

Jalos was last seen boarding a red-and green-colored fishing boat.

The following day, the PCG substation in Pinamalayan coordinated with the Gloria police and the municipal disaster risk reduction office for the launch of the search and rescue operation.

Four teams in separate fishing boats scoured the waters between Gloria and Concepcion town in Romblon, but failed to find Jalos.

The search was terminated at around 4 p.m. due to unfavorable sea conditions.

The teams shifted the search onshore, in the villages of Tambong  and Proper in Bansud town.

Villagers and fisherfolk were informed about the matter and asked to be on the lookout for Jalos as well as alert the nearest PCG office once they spot the missing fisherman.
