92.4 kilos of produce, meat seized at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — At least 92.4 kilos of assorted fruits, vegetables and processed meat were confiscated from foreign passengers and a Filipino pilot at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 yesterday.

Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) officers confiscated 40.1 kilos of pomelo, 13 kilos of peanuts and 10 kilos of atis or custard apple brought in by a Chinese passenger from Taipei without the necessary import and health certificates.  

The BPI officers also seized a kilo of carrots, .5 kilos of fresh tomatoes, three kilos of onions, .9 kilos of garlic, two kilos each of apples and potatoes, 3.9 kilos of oranges and .5 kilos of cucumber brought by a Filipino pilot, whom officials did not identify, from Dubai.

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), on the other hand, confiscated 11 kilos of processed pork, 1.1 kilos of dried pork and 3.5 kilos of “marinated boiled egg chicken nuggets” from three passengers from Xiamen and Taiwan.

The confiscated items will be destroyed through burning, according to BPI and BAI officials.
