MANILA, Philippines — Twenty passengers and crewmembers of a motorboat were rescued when the vessel capsized in the waters off Cagayan on Thursday.

The motorboat LA78 was sailing in the waters between the town of Sanchez Mira and Fuga Island when a crewmember noticed that the hull was damaged, causing seawater to enter the vessel, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s North Eastern Luzon district said.

Passengers were standing on top of the half-submerged boat when they were rescued.

Members of the PCG substation in Claveria and people on passing motorboats rescued the distressed passengers.

The rescued passengers were all in good physical condition and brought to Claveria.

The motorboat eventually sank.
