Taiwanese nabbed for telecoms fraud
MANILA, Philippines — A Taiwanese fugitive wanted in his country for his alleged involvement in telecommunications fraud was arrested in Pasay City on Nov. 17, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said yesterday.
Operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit apprehended Shan Yu-Hsuan, 40, along F.B. Harrison street.
Shan is being held at the BI’s warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pending his deportation, according to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
A warrant for Shan’s arrest was issued on March 25, 2019 by the Ciaotou district court in Kaoshiung.
He was accused of running a call center in Taiwan that engaged in voice phishing to defraud victims, most of whom are abroad.
BI records show Shan arrived on Oct. 10, 2019 and has been overstaying in the country.
