ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Five police officers accused of robbing a businessman were arrested in separate operations in this city and Zamboanga Sibugay on Saturday.

Zamboanga City police chief Col. Alexander Lorenzo identified those arrested as Lt. Ariel Jolatoria, Senior M/ Sgt. Alnajer Ynawat, S/Sgts. Edcel Nicolas and Bobby Judan, and Pat. Ryan Apostol.

Lorenzo said that except for Judan, four of the suspects were arrested in Zamboanga City.

Judan was reportedly arrested in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay, although some reports said he surrendered to the municipal police station.

Lorenzo said that police managed to identify the suspects through the help of a car rental company, where they rented their  getaway vehicle.

Reports said the suspects went to the house of businessman Al-Ghabid Abdul on Tuesday to supposedly serve a warrant for his arrest.

The suspects allegedly took P2.1 million and eight phones from Abdul’s home.

Criminal and administrative charges will be filed against the suspects, Lorenzo said.
