Suspect in Misamis radioman’s slay arrested
MANILA, Philippines — A suspect in the killing of Misamis Occidental broadcaster Juan “Johnny Walker” Jumalon has been arrested, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced yesterday.
PNP public information officer Col. Jean Fajardo said the suspect was apprehended in an anti-drug cooperation in Barangay Don Bernardo A. Neri in Calamba on Tuesday.
Fajardo said the suspect, whom she did not identify, was also tagged in the killing of a municipal engineer last month.
Police said the bullet shells recovered at the house of Jumalon matched with the gun used in the murder of the engineer.
Fajardo said the suspect served as a lookout when two men entered Jumalon’s house, where the broadcaster was hosting his radio program.
Probers are eyeing a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
Fajardo said it is unlikely that Jumalon’s killing was related to his work, noting that he was not a hard-hitting commentator.
