Man behind fake QCPD, NCRPO chiefs’ accounts caught
MANILA, Philippines — A man who allegedly solicited donations using the names of two senior police officials were arrested in Olongapo City, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced yesterday.
Darrel John Green was apprehended in Barangay Barreto on Nov. 11 based on a warrant of arrest for robbery, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said.
Police have been hunting Green after an investigation revealed he created fake accounts on Facebook and Instagram using the names and photographs of Maranan and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in soliciting donations for basketball jerseys.
Green’s activities were reported by a witness who personally knew his actions.
Police initially tracked Green to his residence in Caloocan City last Oct. 29 but he escaped after his wife and daughter blocked them.
Green is being held on a complaint for computer-related identity theft under Republic Act 10175, or the cybercrime prevention law.
Green’s wife, Donna Liza Pangilinan, 43, is facing a complaint for obstruction of justice before the Caloocan prosecutor’s office while their daughter, a minor, was turned over to social welfare and development officers.
Maranan urged people who have been victimized by Green to come forward and file complaints.
