2 NPA rebels killed in Mindoro clash

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Two New People’s Army rebels were killed while an NPA amazon was arrested in an encounter with police and military personnel in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro on Monday night.

Lt. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento, Area Police Command-Southern Tagalog commander, said the fatalities, identified only by their aliases of Rochie and Bondo, died at the scene.

A certain Aiza allegedly yielded two high-powered firearms.

Armamento said police were deployed after they received reports of a clash between soldiers belonging to the 76th Infantry Battalion and an undetermined number of communist guerrillas in Barangay Buong Lupa.

“All military camps and adjacent police stations were directed to conduct checkpoint and chokepoint operations for the possible interception of the fleeing rebels,” Armamento said.
