MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered the transfer of the jurisdiction of 10 “embo” barangays to its Taguig City field office from its Makati City arm.

In a memorandum, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos directed the National Barangay Operations Office to transfer the coverage of the 10 enlisted men’s barrio or “embo” barangays to DILG-Taguig.

The office should provide technical assistance to the DILG-National Capital Region Office to ensure the smooth transition of the 10 barangays and recommend appropriate policies to ensure their unhampered operations, Abalos said.

The DILG-Taguig will now cover the barangays of Cembo, Comembo, East Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper South Side, Rizal, South Cembo and West Rembo.

The same office should also ensure the proper reporting and turnover of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) properties, financial records, documents and money accountabilities.

The three-page memorandum was dated Oct. 26, but was released only after the election of a new set of barangay and SK officials.

The DILG said that this is in compliance with the Supreme Court (SC) ruling in 2021 that favored Taguig City in its decades-long dispute with Makati over the barangays.

It is also in line with other policies issued by the Commission on Elections and the Department of Budget and Management regarding the SC decision.
