MANILA, Philippines — The official Facebook account of Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez was hacked on Wednesday.

In an advisory yesterday, the city government urged the public not to entertain any requests associated with the hacked Facebook account of Olivarez.

“Please be informed that Mayor Eric Olivarez’s Facebook account has been hacked,” city hall said.

“Do not engage nor respond to any messages requesting or asking for financial aid,” it added.

Prior to this, a city government employee received messages supposedly from Olivarez’s Facebook account, asking for money.

Mark Allen Besa, who heads the city’s environment and natural resources office, said he received messages from Olivarez at around 10:37 p.m.

Besa said Olivarez was asking for P35,000, and that he would immediately return the money once he could access his bank again.

Besa posted on Facebook screenshots of his exchange of messages with Olivarez’s hacked account.
