MANILA, Philippines — At least 24 families were left homeless when a fire broke out at a residential area in Barangay NBBS, Dagat-Dagatan, Navotas on Wednesday.

In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze, which started at past 6 p.m., reached second alarm before it was declared out at around 7:19 p.m.

Von Villanueva, head of the city’s disaster risk reduction and management office, said a lighted candle that was placed near a stove sparked the fire.

The affected families are taking shelter at the barangay hall.
