MANILA, Philippines — A cargo vessel loaded with five barrels of diesel and construction materials has run aground in the waters off Romblon on Saturday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
In a statement released yesterday, the PCG said the LCT Ellis Mari IV had 19 crewmembers including the captain on board.
The crewmembers were rescued and found to be in good physical condition.
The Ellis Mari IV was sailing near Barangay Busay, San Jose town when it drifted toward shallow waters.
Initial investigation showed the vessel departed the port of Odiongan in Romblon at around 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Several hours later, the Ellis Mari IV encountered strong winds, causing it to run aground.
The PCG Station in Romblon said local divers inspected the Ellis Mari IV and found minor scratches on starboard side.
The PCG advised the vessel’s captain to document the incident by filing a marine protest, which should be submitted to the PCG and the Maritime Industry Authority.
