MANILA, Philippines — Five people died when a landslide occurred in Barangay Umiray in General Nakar, Quezon amid heavy rainfall on Tuesday night.
Initial reports reaching the office of Mayor Eliseo Ruzol identified four of the fatalities as Ramel Binalao, Sherly delos Angeles, Jonathan delos Angeles and Dionely Datario.
Five houses were reportedly buried in the landslide.
Ruzol said retrieval of the bodies of the victims is ongoing, noting that Sitio Angelo, where the landslide occurred, is within the Sierra Madre mountains.
Members of the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council are assisting residents and the military in retrieval operations.
Ruzol said the 2nd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army would airlift the bodies and turn them over to their families.
