Oriental Mindoro recovering from oil spill

MANILA, Philippines — The tourism industry in Oriental Mindoro is recovering from the effects of a massive oil spill caused by the sinking of the motor tanker Princess Empress in February, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said yesterday.

“It has only been a few months since the oil spill, but now we can see the robust recovery of tourism in Oriental Mindoro,” Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco yesterday.

Frasco commended the provincial and municipal governments for providing the needs of families displaced by the maritime disaster.

She gave assurance that the cruise portfolio of Oriental Mindoro will be fully developed and aligned with the entire country.
