Quezon City fire leaves 16 families homeless

MANILA, Philippines — At least 16 families lost their homes in a fire that razed a residential area in Barangay Krus na Ligas, Quezon City yesterday morning.

The fire was first reported at around 9:30 a.m. and reached second alarm by 9:48 a.m., the Bureau of Fire Protection   reported. The blaze was put out at past noon.

Barangay Krus na Ligas kagawad Irene dela Cruz told The STAR the fire spread to at least eight houses, which were made of light materials.

She added that a boy saw the fire start on the second floor of their house.

“He said that there was no reason for the house to burn,” Dela Cruz said in Filipino.

Arjay Pedreza, 32, suffered minor abrasions and burns on his leg while Keith Flores, 18, suffered second-degree burns on the legs and arm.

The families affected by the fire were brought to the Baluyot covered court, where they were assisted by the Office of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
