MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday lauded a police trainee who saved a drowning girl in Taytay, Rizal.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. commended National Capital Region Police Office trainee August David for rescuing a 14-year-old girl from drowning in the Pasig River in Rizal last Oct. 6.
“David’s unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of our fellow citizens is an example of the values that the PNP upholds,” Acorda said.
“His immediate and fearless response to a life-threatening situation is a testament to his vow to serve and protect, even at the risk of his own life,” he added.
According to the PNP, David happened to be passing by the Barkadahan Bridge when a commotion prompted him to get off the jeepney he was riding.
Upon seeing the drowning girl, he immediately jumped into the river, still wearing his uniform, in an attempt to rescue the victim.
The girl was immediately brought to the Taytay Emergency Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
Acorda praised David’s bravery and boldness, noting that these are the qualities integral to the mission of the PNP.
“He is truly worthy of praise and serves as an epitome of selflessness and unwavering commitment to duty,” the PNP chief said.
