PNP probes cops escorting POGO operators

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday ordered an investigation into reports that some police officers are moonlighting as escorts of Chinese operators of Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) firms.

Col. Jean Fajardo, PNP public information officer, said they alerted the Highway Patrol Group about the information from former senator Panfilo Lacson about policemen escorting Chinese POGO operators.

Fajardo said HPG officers who are found involved in the scheme could face administrative sanctions for serving as escorts to individuals without the proper authority.

“This is considered a less grave offense so they could be demoted or suspended,” she said in a mix of Filipino and English during a press briefing.

Lacson, in a post on X, said that even during office hours, luxury vehicles go through heavy traffic with police escorts.

“Too many luxury vehicles zigzag through heavy traffic while motorcycle cops push motorists away to clear their passage. Shameless!” Lacson said.
