MANILA, Philippines — The Facebook account of Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco has been hacked and the public should not entertain requests for monetary assistance from the page, the Diocese of Cubao announced yesterday.

The Facebook accounts of Ongtioco’s secretary, Sr. Meriam Bauzon, and Fr. Rey Hector Paglinawan were also compromised, the diocese said.

“Please refrain from responding to them if they are asking for any monetary assistance. You may message us here for verification,” the diocese said on its own Facebook page.

In August, Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo asked the Senate to conduct an investigation and compel the Department of Information and Communications Technology to explain the alleged increasing incidents of hacking of Facebook pages.

Bagaforo expressed his concern after the Diocese of Kidapawan’s Facebook page was hacked and displayed scandalous posts.
