Malaysian held for bribe try

MANILA, Philippines — A Malaysian man ended up in jail in Taguig City yesterday for allegedly trying to bribe police officers to release his compatriot.

Jack Boo, 33, reportedly offered P30,000 to police officers at the Taguig City police headquarters for the release of Chong Kar Meng at around 3:40 a.m.

Chong was arrested by police officers patrolling Bonifacio Global City for smoking in a parking area designated as a non-smoking zone.

Police reported that Chong reacted violently and hurled insults at police officers who approached him. He also allegedly tried to bribe the arresting police officers with P2,000.

Boo faces charges of attempted bribery while Chong faces a similar charge as well as those of oral defamation, unjust vexation, alarm and scandal and resisting arrest.
