’13 million bike plate backlog wiped out by 2025’

MANILA, Philippines — The 13-million backlog in motorcycle plates may take up to April 2025 to be fully delivered, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said yesterday.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said the agency is coordinating with contractors to increase the capacity of its plate-making plant’s two machines to one million plates a month or 45,000 plates per day at full capacity by November.

The plant currently produces 32,000 to 33,000 plates per day.

“With that level of production, the backlog of 80,000 motor vehicle plates will be wiped out in November. For motorcycle plates, the target is April 2025,” Mendoza told reporters.

He said the LTO is working with dealers to ensure that motorists can get their plates within a week or so after getting their new vehicles.

According to Mendoza, those who will purchase vehicles after Oct. 15 will get their plates within seven to 10 days.
