Negros Occidental leptospirosis deaths still rising

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The death toll due to leptospirosis in Negros Occidental continues to increase, with 31 recorded from Sept. 17 to 30.

The provincial health office had earlier reported that it logged 28 deaths from January to Sept. 16.

Leptospirosis cases in Negros Occidental increased to 128 as of Sept. 30.

This city logged 75 cases, an increase of 200 percent, compared to 25 during the same period last year.

Complications and deaths were blamed on the delay in seeking medical care.
