MANILA, Philippines — Renewal of driver’s licenses will resume on a staggered basis following the delivery of over one million plastic cards by the winning supplier, according to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

“We don’t want an influx of applicants in our offices. We would like to avoid long queues at licensing centers,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said.

Mendoza assured the public that the renewal process would be faster, with the staggered implementation taking only around 15 minutes.

Driver’s licenses that expired in April must be renewed from Oct. 6 to 31. Motorists whose licenses expired in May should be renewed in November and the same goes for the months of June and December until March 2024.

“If motorists fail to renew their driver’s license on the schedules provided, their license will automatically be deemed expired,” Mendoza said.

The LTO said it has enough supply of plastic cards to address the 2.4 million backlog in driver’s license by March 2024.
