Katipunan zipper lane dry run starts today

Mark Ernest Villeza - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A dry run of a zipper lane intended for motorists utilizing the southbound lane of Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City will begin today.

The zipper lane will be accessible to motorists from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. on weekdays, with holidays excluded, the city government announced yesterday.

The dry run will be jointly implemented by the city government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

MMDA team leader for Katipunan Avenue Ma. Ruby Bron told The STAR that barriers will be placed before the implementation of the dry run.

The primary objective of the zipper lane is to alleviate traffic congestion in the southbound lane of Katipunan Avenue, particularly in front of Miriam College, the city government said in a Facebook post.

Motorists can access the zipper lane at the U-turn slot in front of UP Town Center near C.P. Garcia Avenue.

Rubio said that enforcers will be prepositioned between the zipper lanes and the U-turn slot for motorists intending to turn left on C.P. Garcia Avenue.

The zipper lane features two exits. One is situated in front of the La Vista Subdivision gate on Mangyan street, leading to Miriam College Gates 5 and 6.

The other exit is in front of Miriam College’s Gate 3.
