MANILA, Philippines — Nine people were injured in a fire at a storage facility in Valenzuela City that was placed under control on Friday afternoon.
In its report released yesterday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)’s National Capital Region field office said eight firefighters and a civilian were treated for lacerations, blisters, abrasions,
punctures and burns.
The fire in the facility in Barangay Bagbaguin was controlled at around 5:37 p.m., the BFP said. It started on Thursday at around 12:30 p.m.
The BFP has yet to release an update as of yesterday afternoon if the fire was doused.
Mayor Weslie Gatchalian has supervised the orderly return of the residents who were evacuated when the fire raged.
At least 803 people, who come from 215 families, sought shelter in evacuation centers as a preemptive measure.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has deployed eight firefighters on two fire trucks and two ambulance teams during the fire.
‘We cannot predict how a fire incident such as this can reach the highest fire alarm level, so we ensure that our volunteers and staff are equipped and fully capable of responding and handling fire emergencies any time,” PRC chairman Richard Gordon said in a statement.
Arson investigators estimated the fire damage to be between P35 million to P50 million, according to earlier reports.
