MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is planning to start next year the 50-year master plan to integrate drainage systems in the metropolis.
The program will determine the detailed engineering design of drainage systems in the National Capital Region, according to acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes.
“It would identify how big and extensive the drainage systems would be to ensure water would be free-flowing,” Artes said.
The drainage master plan seeks to prevent unstable flow of excess water due to varying sizes of drainage systems, he said.
Artes said the drainage master plan would also establish how deep creeks should be, as well as the relocation of informal settlers living on the banks of waterways.
He said the agency decided to set the timeline of the master plan to 50 years because it seeks to find out weather patterns and rain volume within such period.
The World Bank will fund the project through a loan, Artes said.
