EPD: Bayani Fernando’s death an accident
MANILA, Philippines — The death of former Marikina congressman and mayor Bayani Fernando was the result of an accident, police reported on Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Wilson Asueta, Eastern Police District (EPD) director, said in a phone interview that this was the information gathered by police officers.
Asueta declined to give other details, stressing they want to respect the privacy of Fernando’s family.
The 77-year-old Fernando was rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center on Friday due to injuries he sustained after he reportedly fell from the roof of his home.
Asueta noted that members of Fernando’s family were the ones who brought him to the hospital.
Fernando’s wife, Maria Lourdes Carlos-Fernando, appealed for prayers as their family faces a difficult time in their lives.
She said her husband was a man of vision, political will and action who left his own brand of leadership and governance in Marikina and
the government agencies he led during the administration of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“His great work as a public servant will always be remembered and appreciated,” she said in a statement issued on Friday night.
