BI nabs West African drug ring member

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration recently arrested a Nigerian suspected of being a member of the West African drug syndicate, the BI reported yesterday.

Nigerian Ihekwoaba Stanley Chibuzo was arrested in a  condominium in Mandaluyong on Sept. 12. The BI alleged that Chibuzo, who has been overstaying in the country for the past four years, is involved in various scams and illegal activities.

In another operation, the BI arrested Chinese nationals Lai Desheng alias Peter Lai, Wu Ming Quan alias Steven Wu and Xueyi Lu in Barangay San Pedro in Puerto Princesa, Palawan for allegedly illegally managing a junk shop and a fishery business in the area.

The BI said one of the three presented a questionable Philippine passport while the other two presented documents stating they were working in Makati.

Also on the same day, the bureau arrested Sri Lankan national Mihindukulasuriya Jude Sumedha Fernando in Barangay San Fernando, San Jose, Antique for overstaying, being undocumented and working without a valid visa.

He was working in an aluminum and glass supply shop and was not able to present immigration documents.

Indian national Yadveer Singh was arrested in Catbalogan City, Samar for misrepresentation after presenting a Philippine driver’s license despite being a foreigner.
