Quakes rock Cagayan, Eastern Samar

MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes of magnitudes-4.1 and 4 rocked parts of Cagayan and Eastern Samar yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the Cagayan quake’s epicenter was located 26 kilometers north of Dalupiri Island in Calayan town.

The temblor, which occurred at 10:58 a.m., was tectonic in origin.

“This is an aftershock of the magnitude-6.3 earthquake that occurred on Sept. 12 in Calayan,” Phivolcs said.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Calayan and Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte. Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Aparri, Cagayan and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

Meanwhile, the magnitude-4 quake in Llorente, Eastern Samar occurred at 12:12 p.m.

Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Tandag, Surigao del Sur and Quinapondan in Eastern Samar.
