South Korea airline to open flights to Palawan

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — More South Korean tourists are expected to visit the country as a major airline is set to open direct flights from Seoul to Palawan.

This was bared by South Korean Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa during a courtesy call on Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco last week.

”They discussed possible collaboration between the Philippines and South Korea on Korean language training for tour guides, and expansion of culture and heritage programs, MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions), dive and golf tourism,” the Department of Tourism (DOT) said.

Frasco said she hopes the country’s “key and emerging destinations” would be able to host more flights from South Korea.

She said she looks forward to Lee’s proposal of having ”biannual tourism cooperation convergences.”

DOT data showed that South Koreans are the top tourists in the country as of March, comprising 26.14 percent of the total 1,332,855 foreign visitors.
