ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Maj. Gen. Steve Crespillo assumed his post yesterday as the new chief of the Western Mindanao Command.
Armed Forces chief Gen. Romeo Brawner led the change of command ceremony at Camp Don Basilio Navarro.
Crespillo took over the post from Lt. Gen. Roy Galido.
Brawner commended Galido for providing guidance to ground forces in crushing Abu Sayyaf bandits in Basilan and Sulu.
He said Crespillo and ground forces should now focus their efforts against the remnants of the Dawlah Islamiya and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters as well as sustain peace and order in Basilan and Sulu.
Brawner said Crespillo is no stranger to his new assignment, having served as brigade commander and senior staff member of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central in Maguindanao.
