MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go commended the dedication of family physicians as he acknowledged the critical role they play in ensuring the health and well-being of communities.
Go, chairperson of the Senate committee on health and demography, was the keynote speaker at the 23rd national midyear convention of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City on Thursday.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between government, medical professionals and stakeholders to achieve comprehensive and effective healthcare solutions for the Filipino people.
“As we transition to a new normal, your role as family physicians is more crucial than ever. You are the first line of defense in our healthcare system and today, we gather to discuss how we can make that system even stronger,” Go said.
He stressed the need to pursue equitable access to healthcare services for all citizens through the proper implementation of the Universal Health Care Law, among other measures.
“It is a game-changer, expanding PhilHealth coverage and integrating public healthcare services from barangay health stations to specialty hospitals,” he said.
Go also cited the significance of the operations of Malasakit Centers, establishment of more Super Health Centers and signing of the Regional Specialty Centers Act, which he principally sponsored.
