Elderly in ‘embo’ barangays get cash gift  

MANILA, Philippines —  The city government of Taguig yesterday started distributing birthday cash gift to senior citizens in the 10 enlisted men’s barrio (embo) barangays that were previously under Makati’s jurisdiction.

According to the local government, seniors residing in Taguig received cash gifts of P3,000 to P10,000 depending on their age bracket.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano led the cash distribution in Barangay Pembo.

“We heard the feedback from senior citizens, saying that the program allowed them to decide how to celebrate their birthdays. That is the joy that this program brings: giving the elderly the freedom on how they will celebrate their birthdays,” Cayetano told reporters.

An initial list of 271 senior citizens have so far been identified, which were verified using the list of social pension beneficiaries from the barangays.
