Special polls to replace Teves set on December 9

MANILA, Philippines — The special election to fill the vacancy in the third legislative district of Negros Oriental with the expulsion of Arnolfo Teves Jr. has been set on Dec. 9.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia said the poll body has allotted P75 million for the special polls.

Those aspiring for the congressional post can file their certificates of candidacy from Nov. 6 to 9.

The election period is from Nov. 9 to Dec. 24.

The campaign period is from Nov. 9 to Dec. 7.

The Comelec said voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are 301,264 registered voters in the third district of Negros Oriental, Comelec records show.

The House of Representatives had earlier expelled Teves for ”disorderly behavior” and ”violation of the Code of Conduct of the chamber.”                                                 –
