MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation arrested a man for allegedly posing as an NBI official in Parañaque City on Saturday.
Wilfredo Reyes, 70, was clad in an NBI jacket when he was caught in an entrapment operation by the bureau’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crimes Division (AOTCD).
Reyes had reportedly been telling his victims that they were under investigation or on the NBI’s watchlist and that he would clear their name in exchange for money, NBI-AOTCD chief Jerome Bomediano told GMA News in an interview.
Among the items confiscated from Reyes were a counterfeit NBI identification card, a badge and a .45-caliber pistol.
The NBI issued a statement clarifying that Reyes is not a legitimate employee of the bureau.
