MANILA, Philippines — Some stations of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will be closed during the whole weekend after a train set hit a glitch while traversing the rail line.

A second-generation LRT-1 train set, which has been in use since 1999, “experienced a mechanical problem while maneuvering from EDSA station to Baclaran station” at 12:32 p.m. on Aug. 24, according to a statement from the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC).

The issue forced LRMC to implement limited train trips from Fernando Poe Jr. (formerly Roosevelt) to Gil Puyat stations and back, instead of the usual train journeys between Baclaran and Fernando Poe Jr. stations.

The LRMC said workers would “perform additional track works for the next three days” – or until tomorrow – “to ensure that the LRT-1 system remains safe for our passengers.”

The maintenance works will close the Libertad, EDSA and Baclaran stations, it said.

LRMC added that southbound trips will be between Fernando Poe Jr. and Vito Cruz stations while northbound trips will be from Gil Puyat to Fernando Poe Jr. stations.
