Albay town kagawad, husband shot dead

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay councilman and her husband were gunned down in Libon, Albay on Tuesday night.

Relly Mata and her husband Alfredo had just arrived at their home in Barangay Nogpo after attending a wake in Barangay Bariw when they were shot at around 9:20 p.m., Bicol police director Brig. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque said in a report.

The couple suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Obinque said the perpetrators and motive for the killing remain unknown.

A manhunt for the assailants is underway.
