2 hurt in Zamboanga City fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two persons were injured in a fire that destroyed at least 100 houses in this city on Sunday night.

The fire, which broke out at past 8 p.m. in Barangay Camino Nuevo, reportedly started in a house owned by a certain Joel Sali, according to City Fire Marshal Supt. Christopher Morales.

Village chairman Norberto Monopolio said the flames quickly spread to other houses made of light materials.

The fire displaced more than 400 residents, who were taken to a safe area and provided tents, food and other relief assistance.

The fire reached third alarm and was declared under control at past 10 p.m.

Fire out was declared at dawn yesterday.
