Bulacan town cops accused of drug suspect’s illegal arrest
MANILA, Philippines — Officials and personnel of a police station in Sta. Maria, Bulacan are under investigation due to alleged irregularities in the arrest of a drug suspect.
The Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police conducted the probe following an inspection led by IAS inspector general Alfegar Triambulo of the police station’s custodial facility.
Triambulo and his team were inspecting the police station’s detention facility on Aug. 9 when the mother of the suspect approached them.
The names of the suspect and his mother were withheld for their protection.
The mother said policemen barred her from seeing his son for several days.
The suspect said the policemen barged into their home and accused him of keeping marijuana. He claimed that he was tortured.
Triambulo said the IAS team found out that there was no warrant for the anti-drug operation.
He said police station chief Lt. Col. Christian Alucod, who admitted he is aware of the operation against the suspect, is among those being investigated.
