Casiguran, Aurora scorches at 60 degrees Celsius heat index
MANILA, Philippines — The heat index in Casiguran, Aurora reached a sizzling 60 degrees Celsius on Monday, the highest so far recorded this year, according to the state weather bureau.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said it was the fourth day in a row that the town recorded an extremely dangerous heat index.
The heat index in the town was recorded at 53 degrees Celsius on Aug. 11 and 12 and 59 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
PAGASA said a heat index of 52 degrees Celsius and above falls under the extreme danger classification.
It said the temperature in Casiguran is expected to cool down to 45 degrees Celsius this week.
The temperature is still in the danger zone, wherein heat cramps and exhaustion are likely. Heat stroke is probable with continued exposure.
The heat index is what the temperature feels like to the body, as measured by high humidity, and reduces the body’s ability to cool itself.
