MANILA, Philippines — The mayor of Mexico town in Pampanga has been asked to submit his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) before te House committee on public accounts, which is investigating the alleged anomalous transactions of the municipal government under his term.

The committee will also request for copies of the SALNs of Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang from the Office of the Ombudsman, committee chairperson and Abang Lingkod party-list Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano said.

The House panel asked former municipal accountant Perlita Lagman and three former suppliers in connection with the contracts entered by the municipal government, which the the Commission on Audit (COA) disallowed in 2018.

The COA originally disallowed P149 million, but it was reduced to P89 million when Tumang and other town officials sought reconsideration.

Rep. Johnny Pimentel said former local government officials should attend the next hearing to enlighten the panel on the COA report.

Tumang denied that he has close ties with the suppliers mentioned in the supposed anomalous transactions.

“I’m sorry but I can no longer recall if that really happened. It has been a long time ago,” he said during the committee hearing on Wednesday.
